We would like to dispel the big bad myth circulating about our animal care and control in West Palm Beach Florida. There seems to be a consensus by the general public around bringing an animal to a shelter for placement or treatment that they will "just kill them". This could not be further from the truth for our county shelter. They have multiple rescue partners that "pull" cats for rescue when they get full, which is on a daily basis. They will also medically treat the cats that come in for TNVR if it is something within their scope. They will aslo treat community cats that have already been thru TNVR. If they cannot treat, they will reach out to their rescue partners for placement. They give a very through exam to the tnvr cats so that they know they are releasing a healthy cat to return to the outdoors.
More often than we would like to say, many people still abandon kittens/cats in boxes where they think someone will "find" and assist because they think this is better than bringing to animal care and control. We also see many people offering kittens and cats to random people on the internet that they don't know instead of bringing to an actual animal facility that has resources! Please don't do that! While we agree that ACC is always full, please remember they are an open shelter for the ENTIRE Palm Beach County! So, if you have reached out to other rescues and they are full. Please take the cat/kittens to acc. If you know someone that can foster (maybe you?) please refer them to ACC or a rescue local to you. We can only change the narrative by being part of the solution. Help us change the narrative here in Palm Beach County. The community cats need all of us.
